Women and Film, no. 5-6, 1974
The penultimate issue of the magazine includes some of the first articles on women directors from early film history, like Germaine Dulac, Alice Guy Blaché and Dorothy Arzner. Another highlight includes Barbara Halpern-Martineau’s idiosyncratic and personal reports from several women’s film festivals that took place between 1972 and 1974. This issue sees the establishment of several regular sections, including ‘Indepdent Women’s Cinema’, marking the conscious shift toward work by women and away from mainstream, ‘man-made’ cinema (newly relegated to a section called ‘The Ideological Massage.’)
