Recuperating black television in the “post civil rights” era

Devorah Heitner

Devorah Heitner is a television scholar completing her doctorate in the department of Media, Technology and Society at Northewestern University. Her dissertation "Black Power TV: A Cultural History of a National Movement of Black Public Affairs Television 1968-1980" uses archival research and oral history to examine an activist genre that has been prematurely forgotten. This year, she holds an American Fellowship from the American Association of University Women.
