Searching for Taiwanese identity: reading June Yip’s Envisioning Taiwan

Li Zeng is a film and television scholar completing her dissertation in the RTVF department’s Screen Cultures program at Northwestern University. Her dissertation, “The Past Revisited: Popular Memory of the Cultural Revolution in Contemporary China,” explores how contemporary Chinese films, television dramas and photographical magazines visualize and popularize the memory of the Cultural Revolution. This project has won both graduate research grant and the Alumni Fellowship from Northwestern University. Her article on Chinese television drama, “Global Imaginary, Local Desire: Chinese Transnational Serial Drama in the 1990s,” is included in the forthcoming publication — The Pre-eminence of Dramatic Programming and Consumption in the People’s Republic of China, eds. Zhu, Y., Keane, M. & Bai, R. (Hong Kong University Press, 2007).
