Giovanna Chesler

Giovanna Chesler is the director and producer of internationally exhibited documentary and narrative films including

  • Period: The End of Menstruation (16mm, 54 min, 2006) a feature doc exploring trends in hormonal birth control which change the way we think of gender, health and the ‘natural’,
  • BeauteouS: The Trilogy, three portraits of three sisters and their relationships to beauty, (16mm, 43 min. 2000-2002) and
  • hand-some, a reflexive documentary on a failing lesbian relationship (16mm, 13 min, 2004.)

Her films are distributed by Cinema Guild and CFMDC and have been highlighted by MTV Live! Canada, Bust Magazine, and CBC. Chesler’s films have screened at many festival and community venues including Freespeech TV, Outfest LA, Ann Arbor Film Festival, Seattle International Film Festival, Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films, Gene Siskel Theatre and Arts Picturehouse in Cambridge, UK. Giovanna is an Assistant Professor in Communication at the University of California San Diego, and works professionally as a cinematographer and film / video curator and juror.
