Capitalist childhood in film: modes of critique

Susan Ferguson

Susan Ferguson is an Associate Professor of Youth and Children’s Studies and of Journalism at Wilfrid Laurier University in Brantford, Canada. She has published articles on social reproduction theory, children’s culture and education, and democratic discourse.

This article was inspired by a series of wonderful films – all mentioned in the article – that she has viewed over the past decade. Her goal over the next decade is to watch every single film mentioned in film critic and director Mark Cousin’s contemplative cinematic essay, A Story of Children and Film (http://astoryofchildrenandfilm.com/).
