“Behind her laughter…is fear!” Domestic abuse and transnational feminism in Bollywood remakes

Gohar Siddiqui recently defended her dissertation, “Déjà Viewed: Nation, Gender, and Genre in Bollywood Remakes of Hollywood Cinema,” at Syracuse University. Her project examines the Bollywood remakes of Hollywood films as sites of global and cultural negotiation between the two industries. Her research and teaching interests include remakes, adaptations, docudramas, gender studies, transnational feminism, and post-colonial studies. She has previously presented her work at SCMS, NEMLA, and the University of Westminster Conference, “What’s New? The Changing Face of Indian Cinema: Contemporary and Historical Contexts” (2011). She is currently teaching at UMass, Dartmouth.
