Elise Finielz is currently completing her PhD in French and Francophone studies in the Romance Studies Department at Cornell University. Her research focuses on Francophone Caribbean and West African Literature and Cinema, along with postcolonial studies. She is particularly interested in exploring the intersection of art and politics. Elise holds a master degree in Sociology (University of Paris I, La Sorbonne) and in French and Francophone Literature (Syracuse University).
In her dissertation, she focuses on the works of female authors and filmmakers. She more specifically looks at the innovations in form and content women narratives or films represent in terms of the constitution or the position of the female subject in relation to anti-colonial struggles and postcolonial dispensations of power.
