A nightmare of capitalist Japan: Spirited Away
|
Ayumi Suzuki finished an MA in Mass Communication and Media Arts at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale in 2008. She is currently working in Tokyo. Her Master's Thesis, "Animating the Chaos: Japanese Anime, Cinema, and Postmodernity," explores reasons why Japanese popular media have become popular among late-capitalist nations like the United States. The hypothesis is that as Japanese popular media animate aspects of late capitalist Japan and at the same time criticize that world, generations born into similar societies identify with the perspectives speaking through the animation medium.
