Stephen Papson

Stephen Papson is a Professor of Film and Representation Studies at St. Lawrence University. He has co-authored three books with Robert Goldman: Sign Wars: The Cluttered Landscape of Advertising (Guilford, 1996) and Nike Culture: The Sign of the Swoosh (Sage, 1999) and Landscapes of Capital (Polity, 2011). All three works focus on advertising texts. His most recent essays include “Baz Luhrmann’s Australia: When Excess Isn’t Parody” (Jump Cut), “The Frankfurt School and the Sociology of Woody Allen” in Companion to Woody Allen, eds. Bailey and Gingus, and “Scholars, Intellectuals and Bricoleurs” (Arts and the Humanities in Higher Education). I am presently teaching a course called Edgy Cinema which looks at the Works of Tarantino, Refn, and Kim ki-duk.
