Sean Donovan

Sean Donovan is a PhD candidate in the department of Film, Television, & Media at the University of Michigan. His research focuses on U.S. LGBTQ media, employing theoretical and textual analysis approaches to transmedial organizations of queer life. He also writes and researches about the horror genre and film festivals. His dissertation tracks nostalgia for queer pasts as an affective mode across different media platforms, from hookup apps to film festivals. His work has appeared in The Cine-Files, The New Review of Film and Television Studies, Somatechnics, and Gender Forum. Outside the academy, Sean is active in film festival cultures and works for the Ann Arbor Film Festival as their curator of LGBTQ programming.
