Letter to a potential author
Dear xxxxx, you send us a timely and interesting essay. I can send this version for peer review or you can follow a few suggestions for revision and have peer review after that. I think that would better your chances for acceptance.
First, the essay gives very little film analysis for the ambitious methodology given. In addition, such analysis should attend to the narrative, visual motifs and structuring, and audio track. The essay could well be twice its length. In addition, Jump Cut uses lots of images and captions for each essay; think of that when rewriting the piece.
Second, the writing bears a lot of marks of AI composition. As editorial policy, we do not mind authors using these tools at the research stage, but it cannot serve for close analysis of artistic works or original prose argumentation. If you did not use AI, then your essay has serious problems and you will have to figure out what they are before submission. Since you are already an accomplished media maker, I think you can make your main points by using a close analysis of a number of exemplary films. I hope you continue on that path and rewrite using a filmmaker’s eye and understanding.
We would be pleased if you want to continue on with this project with us. The topic is of great importance.
